Tracy: There are lots of individuals here who hunt snakes or live in NE Georgia, but no organized groups that I know of. Just keep posting, and you will meet a lot of folks over time through Email hear that you might be able to get together with for reptile collecting. It would help some if you provided a little more info about yourself in your profile, as it would help you meet people your own age. Welcome to the group. Best Regards JohnZ

Like John said, you haven't caused any trouble, just interest.
I'm not that familiar with the snakes of your area, but your description doesn't sound much like an indigo. They are very skiney and VERY black with narrow heads and wide necks, like milksnake/kingsnake.
As far as the indogo being the largest (longest actually), it is, but just barely. The largest black rat would be just a little shorter than the largest indigo, but the indo would be quite a bit heavier.

Oops, among my other mistakes, the word that came out as "skiney" was meant to be "shiny", not "skinny"... Not only can't I spell, I can't type either.

The next one I come across will be sure to let you know. Most of the snakes I catch these days is while I am working my inmates in the parks. They see them while they are working and call me and I go catch them. I don't have a snake bag but use a pillow case for non-venomous snakes. Can't transport venomous snakes in state vehicle anyway. I will let everyone know if another big one comes around.

Yes, the Indigo snake should have throat markings like a reddish orange color, and also have these snakes puffed their throat up when you have cornered them?
