i called them, and made a post here, but it never showed up...the "permit" thing was ONLY a grandfather clause, and the guy on the phone didn't agree with people being able to keep snakes at all.....he was a real good guy <sarcasm>

and if people would be idiots with mambas, what's stopping them from being idiots with timbers or EDB's.....they're not "great starter snakes" by anyone's definition......if you get bit, you are in a world of hurt......i know here in huntsville, they don't have the antivenom on hand......why not have a permit system in place for VENOMOUS REPTILES, regardless of the fact that it's indigenous or not.....it just makes no sense to outlaw some venomous animals.....that affects people like me.....if people want the snakes, they'll get them.....i don't see any positive coming from a "non-indigenous ban".......the people that continue to do what they want just have less of a chance of surviving a serious envenomation........

Hey Sal,
I think that is why Georgia lets you keep natives. Since the Rattlesnake Roundups who have to stop but so many people love it so that is the only redeeming quality about it.

I think it all boils down to Income Flow. If you shut down the Roundups, we lose Tourist Dollars, Money Rules most State and Federal Governments, but I still think the Law that was passed 4 years ago, was mainly to please the Snake Handling Bunch. I know that we still have a few of this Churches left in AL. It has to be based on Religious Freedom, I don’t only see the Roundups to be a part of this. Like I say, there has to be more to this Crape. I would be willing to bet if you said that you Keep your Animals for Religious Reasons, they would allow you that Freedom. It all boils down to the Constitution, they cant play with your Religious Beliefs, if they did, the ACLU would have a Field Day with their Ass...................Be safe ya’ll Wally

sand mountain alone has a few of those churches.....there are just too many people that don't care.....a lot care one way or the other, but a lot more have no opinion.....if we could sway them our way or toward a way that keeps us all happy (except the haters) then maybe we could get something done.....they don't get rid of bad drivers because that would cut into that revenue.....if there was a bit of revenue to be made with us snake lovers, then maybe they'd put some thought into a system......even reptiles over a certain length and/or weight......a lot of large snakes are left homeless......i know a guy that let a full grown savannah monitor loose because he got tired of it.....there are permits you can get for exotic birds and mammals.....why not for reptiles.......
