Any snake can lose its tail without it being a fatal injury, but none do so on a more or less voluntary basis like the glass lizards (and other lizards) do. The lizards will regenerate the tail, the snakes do not. In the case of the snake losing its tail, it would have to be forcibly removed, as by a shovel, another animal's teeth, etc.
