I`m not sure if it`s proven but here`s what I know: Some scientists think that baby hots have more concentrated venom than the adults to compensate for their small quantity of venom and smaller glands. They also feed on small, fast moving prey. So they have to kill that prey as quickly as possible or else it will run away to far for the snake to find it after biting it. This ain`t much but I hope it helps.
Best regards, Alex S.

If your looking at LD charts (for mice) then in some snakes there is a difference in venom lethality. If you look at a new born C. atrox you'll find that as it matures its venom changes and becomes less "lethal" but at the same time the quantity(yield) of venom also increase there for making the animal very dangerous if bitten. Baby snakes are dangerous and shouldn't be taken lightly. A close friend of mine was bitten by a 4wk old C. atrox and required 20 vials of Wyeths AV! Both him and the snake are doing well.

This is basically the same thing that Rabies said and I am sorry for repeating it. If a baby snake does happen to by more potent than an adult, an adult in most cases will still be more dangerous because its venom glands are so much bigger therefore making its venom yield much higher.

Ouch John...
That's a whole lot of Horse Serum for the kidneys to process. How was his post-envenomation recovery?

Hi Al
Classic serum sickness. Very itchy and minor irritation around the joints. Typical wyeth syndrome as they say.

For the difference in price between the Wyeth & the Cro-Fab, I'd put up with the itching. Heck, I could even hire someone to scratch my itches.

I did 43 vials of Wyeth once. The serum sickness was almost as bad as the bite itself. The rash literally put me back into the hospital and onto IV prednisone. Screw it, next time I just won't get bit, it's just not worth the aggravation...LOL
