Ok, that no live feeding in England law got me thinking, what other areas have strange laws regarding herps.
The one I mentioned in that thread is here in Alabama, it is illegal, to buy, sell or trade box turtles, but it is permitted to catch and keep a wild one.
This isn't meant to debate the laws, just to laugh at the way they are written.
Let's hear em!

If I'm not mistaken, in Arkansas, you can't own an alligator or two as a pet because they're protected, but you can farm them for their meat and skin. Make sense? Didn't think so. Alligators were all but erradicated from the state many, many years ago. Repopulation efforts have yielded a few areas, including one close to me called Kingfisher, where people can go see wild alligators just about any time they want. Of course, the populations are far from being large, but they appear stable. I'm not saying that everyone should be able to keep an alligator as a pet, but if they're abundant enough to farm and slaughter, to me, they're abundant enough to keep.

In Georgia a 40 year old professional herpetologist cannot keep a Mangrove snake without paying $2500 in permits and insurance annually. But a 10 year old boy living in a rural area could legally keep a 7 foot 20 lb eastern diamondback for nothing. Also, you can't keep a nonvenomous snake native to the state without a permit, but you can kill them by the dozens and nothing will be done about it, even though it is illegal. That's a law the DNR won't enforce. As a matter of fact, there are many game wardens that will admit they hate snakes and don't care if you kill them! That's a fact no matter how much they don't want to hear it.
