Hi Bandit, firts thing you have to do is quarantine that snake to prevent spreading to other snakes. Next, remove everything for the cage it's in, clean the cage out thoroughly with a mite remover, Prevent a mite for example, and lay down a piece of white paper towel for substrate. The snake needs to be sprayed sparingly with the mite remover (keep away from eyes), I've heard of olive oil, but it's WAY too messy. You can try soaking the snake first, for about 20 minutes in lukewarm water, or a mixture of the water and spray.
It probably won't get the ones near the head, though. You have to clean the snake after the spray takes it's effect on the mites, it can be harmful if not used properly. If it's a wild-caught snake, I would recommend a dose of antibiotics to remove any internal parasites that it most likely has. I'll also recommend not keeping or buying any wild-caught snakes. In your profile it says your goals are to end the senseless killing of snakes, taking them from the wild is no different. Hope this helps.

I've found the best way to deal with mites (and ticks) is to keep the cage completely dry for a couple of days and sprinkle it with unscented body powder. Mites and ticks both have waxy bodies and fine powders dessicate and kill them.
Don't shake the powder into the snake's eyes, particularly if it's close to shedding.
Back in the 60s, there was a product called Dry-Dye #7. It was the first dessicant I had heard of and it worked very well. But any fine, non-toxin powder works well. Sevin is also good.
