Hy guys. I got back from my 7 day trip in the s-w area of Romania, the Cerna river valey. It was an awsome trip. Here`s what I found:
-Euscorpius carpaticus(carpathian scorpions-lots of them)
-Testudo hermanni boetgerri (Hermann`s Tortoise -about 15)
-Podarcis muralis (Common Wall Lizards - about 100)
-Lacerta viridis (Green Lizards - 100+)
-Anguis fragilis (Slow worm or Glass Lizard - about 7)
-Natrix tessellata (Dice Snake - about 30)
-Dolichophis (ex. Coluber) caspius (Large Whips Snake - 3)
-Zamenis longissimus (ex. Elaphe longissima) (Aesculapian Rat Snake - 1 live & 1 dead)
-Vipera ammodytes ammodytes(European Nose-Horned Viper - 13 in total).
It was a splendid expedition, we found some great looking animals and had a great time doing it.
I`ll post some pics of the trip this week. Next week I`ll have my own reptile expo at the local Natural History Museum and I`m loocking forwoard to it.
Take care guys...
Best regards, Alex S.

Hey Alex:
You should make a business of herping trips, you seem to know where to find them...
Cheers!

Hy guys,
Sure was a great trip. I`ve uploaded some of the better pics in the field photos album. Just click next from this picture:

Al, about making a bussines of my trips, I don`t know who would be interested in this kind of stuff. There are just a hand full of herpers in Romania. Also, most of the species I find are endangered or threatened species and there are plenty of poachers here. For example, a lot of people catch hundreds of Vipera ammodytes every year for their "snake farms". Vipera ammodytes venom sells for a very good price. About 20 years ago I could have found over 100 vipers in that place in a week. But now the situation is very different. You just don`t know who you can trust around here. This snake farming is doing a lot more damage to the snake populations around here than the round ups in the states do.
Anyway, hope you guys enjoy the pics.Happy herping !
Best regards,
Alex S.

Yeah, I understand about poaching and them wiping out populations of snakes. This is why I seldom share the location of den sites.
