Steve Irwin has discovered a new species, it is a turtle. Irwin's Turtle (Elseya irwini). Ok so it isn't a venomous snake, I think he at least deserves a little credit for making snakes more appreciable to the general public. Just ask any 6 year old kid. I have also seen many publications and sources from him in monitor books. I don't think his work with venomous snakes though is as important as his work with crocodiles and monitors. So maybe not necessary for venomous community, but a herp community. Since this is about venomous only, keep him off.
Chris, thanks for putting Klauber on the list. I have yet to find a publication on rattlesnakes that does not mention his name. I've finished Volume 1 of his massive work on rattlesnakes, and just started Volume 2.

I stand corrected, I forgot about Irwin's turtle.
TC, ESF and U of Florida have degrees in herpetology, Humboldt and many more have programs, and I think Texas A&M had a degree, not sure anymore. However, I may be wrong on all accounts.
Andrew, yes I have opinions, as a human, I have that right. What makes him one of the best handlers in the world? Because, you have that opinion. That and the fact that you have spent countless hours watching the croc hunter, so he made a believer out of you. There are hundreds of people who are not on TV that spend countless hours in the field handling and researching snakes, ones that aren't planted. I don't take away from his skills, the fact that he loves animals, and what a good conservationist he is. But he is known for his shows and the reason he is so popular with people is because of his shows. There are many other people that have been around longer that are just as popular and more recognized in the herp community than just people on TV. Many other people that don't need the spotlight or money to do what they do. I'm not an Irwin fan, I have the right not to be, you are, and you have that right. As far as my "identity" goes, I don't choose to have one for personal reasons, and after seeing your pic, I choose not to explain it to you. I have been coming here for quite a few years and people know that I can be opinionated, but only on certain topics. If you feel I am no better than an anonymous poster, then that's your opinion, it's your right. I don't know you, so I don't care what your opinion is, although you do have that right to have one.
Thanks for the kind words.
