Hurricane. A big sucker too.
Tens of thousands homeless.
Hundreds if not thousands dead.
Much of a historic U.S. city (New Orleans) still under water a week later. (It's below sea level and everyone knew it would happen some day, but this storm strengthened from relatively minor to a monster after everyone thought the worst was already over).
Mass pillaging.
Thousands still trapped in flooded areas and being evacuated by helicopter because it's the only way in.
20 or so oil platforms "missing".
A few major U.S. shipping ports destroyed or unreachable.
Just generally bad.
Search on "hurricane katrina" for more specifics.
Any members is the area have more important things to worry about that updating us...even if they have power.

Holy crap guys... I saw something on the news but it didn`t seem like such a big deal. I realy didn`t even have time to watch the news here in the last weeks. Man...A former classmate of mine lived in New Orleans. Romania had simillar situations this year. Parts of all the counties were flooded several times. Hundreds of people dead and thousands homeless. We had no hurricane thow, just massive storms and endless rains that caused this. Traveling threw the country was impossible for large periods of time. Important road and railroad bridges destroyed. We had an awfull year here. I was fortnate that mostly rural areas got damaged, and especialy towns and villages situated next to a river. My city was one of tha last to get struk by the weather but fortunatly it only destroyed two bridges and very few people got hurt. As for other towns and villages in my county, that`s another story. Theese floods have been hounting us since early spring and have just bearly stopped.
I give my condoleances to anybody who lost anybody or anything because of that hurricane...
Best regards, Alex S.
