Hi all hope all is well, just a post that was started by Cro on a seperate question regarding a 1 dollar subscription fee for registering on this site as anonn. posting has been eliminated (goodstuff) i'm sure any herper who genuinely wants to register can and probably should be asked to atleast make a donation to the site, which in turn can be used for admin. and maybee some money for some of our most needy cause SNAKE/REPTILE CONSERVATION. Any way great idea Cro, If anyone has a proper cause why not let us know.and then run a vote system to to see which cause is most needy! not really my idea but prompted by another herper.

While I like the idea of having the site pay for itself, and I'd be happy to pay a lot more than a dollar, I would hate to discourage the non-herp people who stop in from time to time to ask a single question. Very few people will pay anything for that.

Registering a Nickname to post a question should stay free, because like Larry said, we would not want to discourage folks coming in for advice.
I was just amazed at the numbers of folks who have signed up to post here. A optional PayPal thing at $1.00 on a volantary basis could help support a fund that could be used like the Herpetologist League has that supports Grants in Herpetology, which funds young researchers. Or moneys each year could be given to deserving Conservation Efforts in Herpetology. The money would certanly support the upkeep of this web site. And the SHHS could use it to throw one heck of a annual collecting trip or cookout or other type of social event.
The thing is that a lot of folks have PayPal allready, and no one will miss one dollar, but by shere numbers of members who do choose to sign up, we might be able to raise a few thousand dollars each year in a easy way that could be put to good use.

No offense, but that is not a good idea. There are so many web-sites out ther that don't charge and many herpers (including myself) will simply go to other web-sites. I was wondering where all the former "posters" have gone that used to post on this web-site? It seems that there are only a select few members that post here.

All the points raised have very valid reasons so is it worth atleast having a SHHS donation program or something like it and if possible could we not "pay per head" for a ticket style shhs meeting im sure quite a few of us would be willing to pay monies for a great day out and even though im in England I would definitely be on my way! Also though I would hate to discourage anyone from asking a question but wont as there will be a fee, is there any way of just making a minimal donation as obviously some of us may pay more and others less, I have enjoyed such a useful and valid thread I think there must be a way to donate and maybee pay for whatever activity/event that could be organized by the whole shhs as i said I would be happy to even have to travel as I do posess a relative in Kissimee Florida, so that would act as a good home base for me please lets get our ideas together im sure we can sort something out, Best regards and thankyou all for your replys all poss or neg. are welcomed.
