I think fly strips cut into small pieces works the best.......Place them in a location where the snake can't get to and soon the problem should be gone.

Frontline used in very small doses direct to the skin and rubbed on the snake worked well for food mites. Do not use to much and im not sure of what it may be called where you are It eradicated food mites in nearly every place needed but always clean and disinfect any area before applying. it really does work cheers kieron.

The best way I found to treat mites is using canola oil from the grocery store.
- Rub your snake down in canola oil 2 times a day for 3 days. The oil sufficates the mites, and you will see the dead ones in your hands as you apply the oil to your snake. Keep your snake in a pillow case while it is going through the canila oil treatment.
- Take your snakes cage, clean out everything, water dish, bedding, hidebox, etc. Cover the bottom with flea powder from the grocery store, and apply a cut up flea collar in the cage as well. Put the top back on, and seal it with tape and a trash bag to allow no air getting in or out of the cage. Fumagate it for 3 days. Put the hidebox, water dish, etc in the freezer for 3 days. Dispose of the old bedding.
-After 3 days, wash out the tank Throughly!!!! Let it sit for a 24 hrs after introducing your snake. Put your snake in the bathtub with warm water to wash off any dead mites and oil. Put clean bedding back in the cage along with its other things from the freezer.
This has ALWAYS workrd for me. I like this method, because it will NOT make your snake sick like chemicals will. If it is a chemical that kills mites, it will kill your snake. Even the Reptile Relief spray will make your snake sick. Trust me. This, in my experience is the best way to kill mites.

I spoke with someone last week who has an extensive collection of snakes and recently had a mite outbreak. He told me that he ordered 25,000 predatory mites which he then released into cages and throughout the snake room. Supposedly, the mites do not prey on snakes but on the other mites. When all the mites are gone, they eat each other until the room is mite free. Now I've heard it all! I just use Reptile Relief as well as permetherine. Provent a mite is sold for reptiles at about $20 a can or more, but the same stuff is available at Wal-Mart for $6. You just have to be really careful with it and know how to treat the cages before you use it. If you do it wrong, like many other chemicals it will kill a snake. I routinely treat my cages with it and never have any problems.
