For those of you who were at BOR in January, David Chiszar was one of the "Panel of Experts" I wish him well.
DENVER - Two Colorado men who routinely work with rattle-snakes are reconsidering their career choices after being bitten and nearly dying. Bryon Shipley, 47, a longtime care-taker for reptiles and amphibians at the Denver Zoo was bitten this month while weighing a bagged, radio-tagged prairie rattlesnake on a nature preserve. The snake lunged and bit him through the bag, which the Denver Post said is a very rare thing for a snake to do. At the University of Colorado, snake biologist David Chiszar also nearly died on the floor of his laboratory after a rattler got his thumb.

Wow Al.
That's four publicized rattlesnake bites so far this month!
Things sure seem to be escalating at a rapid pace.

I know Karl...This is 5 in two weeks. Everybody needs to "STAND DOWN" and think about what they are doing.
I know you've posted many times about people downplaying snakebites from animals they keep. WDB is one of the worst for local tissue distruction, not forgetting the systemic effect which are life threating to say the least. This bite (I hope I'm wrong)will result in serious long term disability, with the possibility of loss of the bitten digit.
Every Venomous Snakebite carries VERY SERIOUS medical implications, up to and including DEATH. Lets keep out wits about us and focus on what we have in those cages.
THINK and BE SAFE EVERONE

Well, add another one. I just saw the post of a news article on kingsnake about someone in Florida just got bit by another Western Diamondback. It just keeps going and going.

Karl:
The WDB bite you are referring to was already included in the 5 I noted above. I'm in Miami on business so it was on the local news. That one may amount to bad luck since the victim was just bitten above the snake boot line, just below the knee.
