Hi to everyone. I'm new in the forum and I'd like to say hi to everyone. Thanks for letting me participate here.
About this topic, well, I haven't (yet) ever been to the US, but I've been to the land Down Under a few times, and the fact is that aussies usually find it funny when they're told about their variety of venomous reptile (and non reptiles, remember spiders and the platypus, only venomous mammal on earth)species. Snakebites in Oz are very, very rare. Most aussies live in urban areas, and whenever they get in the "bush" they usually are well aware about do's and don't regarding snakes. On the other hand the Public Health system is pretty good and antivenin availability is high.
Most of australians them haven't ever seen a Taipan, a Mulga or a tiger snake, not to mention to know someone who's been bitten. The fact is that in Oz, you're quite more likely to be envenomated by a box jelly fish or something alike, or by a Red Back spider in your backyard (Sydney's is full of 'em) than by a brown snake.
Regards!
