Ok, I have a Jungle carpet python that usually sheds perfectly for me; just one even piece. But right now it's not anywhere near neat and even. It's all flaky and coming off in chunks. I tried to up the humidity a little more than normal and it seemed to help for the most part. Other than moisture is there anything else that could have attributed to a bad shed? Thanks.

You can provide a "shed box" for the python when the time is near--some moist sphagnum moss. Or if the snake is too big for that, then try misting the interior of the cage with warm distilled water. Definintely when a shed doesn't go well it is because the conditions are too dry.

As already mentioned, when ever I notice any of my animals coming up to shedding, I increase the humidity simply by spraying the enclosure. If they aren't too big, then having a water dish that they can soak in helps as well.

PS have you checked for mites or any other parasites? Don't mean to scare you.

When I have a problem shedder, I take a 5 gal bucket, fill a quater way of warm water and then 1/4 cup of peroxide..Keep the snake in it for 3 hrs and the problem is usually gone with some extra added skin benefits.

Jeff, I thought I was only one of a Few Keepers that use the old Bucket of Water with Peroxide trick. It really does wonders for Skin Condition, don’t it? I have used this trick on (A. contortrix) and on a Few others. To this Herper, it seems to be the best way to help a Hard Sheder............Be Safe Ya’ll, Happy Herping : Wally

I keep pythons. As has already been pointed out, humidity is usually the problem. Regular misting works. With my larger animals... once I see they are in shed I put them in a large rubbermaid trash can with about 6-8 inches of water in the bottom and a couple of drops of antibacterial soap. Let soak for 1-2 hours. The soap breaks the surface tension of the water and allows it to be more readily absorbed through the skin. This is also a good technique to treat for dehydration. Bottom line my animals rarely have trouble shedding. I am curious about the peroxide soak. What are the benefits of peroxide?

Take a cloth bag (burlap works best for me but a pillowcase is fine)get it damp. Put the snake inside and let it crawl around in the bag for about an hour or so and all the dead skin will be left in the bag. Marty
