Just please be very careful with that snake! Never take it out by yourself..I have a Burmese python that we caught in the Everglades and it is only 9 ft and super strong....

Aaron:
Just in case...store this away for emergency use.
If grabbed by a large constrictor and it's a serious situation, two ways of getting the beast to let go:
1) Pour alcohol in their mouth, I used to keep vodka around just in case. It will get them to release and will not hurt them.
2) The more drastic one is HOT water....get to a shower or bath and get the hot water going...self-preservation will take over and the snake will get off you.
Good luck,
Al

It's gonna be mighty hard to get a shot of wisky with a 16 ft python rapped around you. Once that suckers on tight; you aint gonna do nothing but pass out, so have a friend around...

I agree, with large constrictors it is imperative to use at least 2 people. I remember someone saying on Kingsnake onetime...if you get bit by a venomous snake you "probably" have some amount of time to get to a hospital and get medical care(though I wouldn't count on it), but if you're alone and a large constrictor gets you you've got 4 minutes...
I think his point was completely missed because of the egos at work, but it made an impression on me...

I tend to get around the herp community quite a bit although I am mostly known for my voice in the venomous community. Over the years I have had several friends who have kept and bred the large constrictors. One of the things that stayed with me was a recommendation to keep a spray bottle of alcohol (Vodka, Gin, something high test) in the herp room within easy reach whenever a cage is open.
I haven't personally seen it work but I have heard of it from several sources. A handy spray bottle in the herp room makes much more sense than trying to get to a whiskey bottle once the snake has ahold of you.
Just my slight input,
Karl

On my daughter's birthday in 98, I went to do my routine pen cleaning and when I entered into the pen housing a retic of about 14 feet, the discovery was made as to why they say handle large snakes with help, or at least a standby. Four very tight, very painful coils were around me in mere seconds.
Her boyfriend was there and did all he could to help but the snake was much stronger than he was.
It wasn't long before vision was spotty, then blurry. My brain was in extreme pain from the pressure, ears were buzzing, joints cracking. Knowing that the constrict so as to limit intake of air, I stopped breathing intentionally as long as I could, then just very short breaths.
Alcohol was used, he tried to pry and tug the snake off of me. Neither worked.
Using very hot water, I believe, is what did the trick.
When the snake let go, the sudden release of blood pressure caused me to black out. When all was done, I had four cracked ribs, pernament damage to my spine, and 41 stitches. That snake had to go.
On the contrary, a larger retic I had, and spent hours with daily, never once offered any problems at all. The 14 footer I got as an adult and very little, if any, time was spent on the snake before I got it.
I have had rocks, too. If you get, be sure to get it young, spend many hours with it. If by 6 months old, it hasn't calmed down, it never will.
BE VERY CAREFUL.

I had a burmese grab my wrist when she was about 15 feet, bourbon did not make her let go, I was able to prevent her from getting a coil around my body, she hung onto my leg. Keeping still got her to let go after a while. She had grabed my arm when I was putting in a rabbit. Once the "feeding mode" had passed she seemed to know that she got me by mistake. She almost seemed sorry after, resting her head on my leg. That is the only time I have been bitten where I can say it really hurt. The blood was dripping from my elbow. That snake toped out at 17 feet and around 200 pounds.

Az sorry I have been very busy the last week and havent been able to post but I am glad that you seem certain that you want this snake so good luck when you have it can you post me about its sex, size, etc if you start with a reasonably young snake by the time it getts to a significant size 5 feet+over you should have got a measure of the snake and all should be fine. please keep me posted.regards Keyz. by the way two people are often better than one but if its just you have the equipment listed by Phobos as these may invariably save your skin!once again good luck not that it will be needed.

I have a 5ft Red Tail Boa and the other day I got her out to take some measurements and as I had her out she wrapped around my leg and gave me a little hug I was very impressed by the strength the animal had. I have never been into big snakes mainly hots but I saw a man and his son at the Dixie Reptile Show in Alabama, and they had Red Tails for sale they were young and had only eaten once. The man and his son were vet's from some where(cant remember it was 2years ago)but the snakes were very big for there age and had alot of pink on them so I purchased one.Cool snakes. If I get another big snake I will get a Blood or Olive Python.
