A corn snake (Elaphe guttata guttata) would make an excellent nonvenomous addition to any collection. It is easy to care for and does very well in captivity. It is also one of the most beautifully patterned and brilliantly colored of nonvenomous snakes. There are many commercial breeders in the Florida area who offer a wide variety of color morphs at reasonable prices. The "normal" corn, as it is referred to, is the most attractive corn snake in my opinion.

For sheer beauty a morph phase corn snake would be great they feed well and attain a maximum length of around 5 feet and a moderatly small girth abut 5-7 inches. But if yoy prefer something a little bigger but dont have to much experience with larger snakes I would definitely suggest a Dumerils Boa as they grow to about 8 feet they "usually" feed well and they rival any ther boid as a pet as a common Boa Constrictor can and sometimes will be EXTREMLY snappy and they also get quite alot larger. What ever you pick please try and get a captive bred animal as the trade in catching and selling snakes is very bad for the worlds eco-system and the snakes themselfs are pushed into terrible numbers in the wild, A Dumerils Boa is protected under CITIES annex ! in other words you must have the snakes papers of registration complete with parents micro chip numbers and date of birth. If the snake does not have this paperwork dont buy it as it could be a wild caught specimen, also in your area you have an abundance of great non venomous snakes but I dont know your local laws on catching your own snake probably not a good idea though as there are plenty of very nicely coloured VENOMOUS species also, if you wish to collect your own be knowledgeable and above all be carefull hope you enjoy whatever snake you decide on (DUMERILS BOA) and have a great time deciding!!!! Kieron.

I would have to say that either a Florida Kingsnake, California Kingsnake, or the Tangerine Milksnakes are the best. They usually eat pretty good, obtain a small size (3-5 ft) and usually docile enough for handeling. Not to mention the colors are beautiful on these snakes. Bryan
