If you login on a public computer, or a computer that has multiple users, be sure to "Log Out" first. THEN, go to a homepage like Google.com - in Internet Explorer, choose "Tools" then "Internet Options". Delete the History, the Cookies and the Internet Files. Then go to "Content" and "Autocomplete". Clear the forms and passwords. Then close the browser. That should be all you need to do. I recently had to this while accessing my eMail and this site while in Taiwan and Sri Lanka.
If you don't take these steps, the next person to access the site will be logged in as YOU. Then they can change your profile info, post as you, etc.

This is very good advice. I am currently 2 semesters away from graduating from school and computer networking is my field of study. Security is a MAJOR concern to all network administrators. Not logging off is an easy mistake to make. I have done it myself. I have also found clients of mine that leave there log on names and passwords to there accounts lying on there desk. If someone gets access to your account at work they could use your pc to launch malicious attacks and the ip address(the address that makes your pc unique on the Internet) of your machine would be the cause, making you the suspected hacker. Also wireless networks are notoriously easiy to hack. I have sat in class and watched classmates access a wireless network with the most recent securities and encryptions in place within 3 minutes. Once they have access to the network a hacker can see every packet of information that goes through that network. every e-mail, every instant message, every order made by a credit card, every online banking transaction. With certain programs, a hacker can see all of this in plain text. Also hackers can and do use resources like hard drive space to store sensitive material. Again they store it on your pc so when the FBI starts looking for the kiddie porn server the pics are stored on your pc. This is very serious I have an associate who tracks this stuff for the Feds over the Internet.
I know this is off the subject but we are all online here so online security is something we should all be aware of and education ourselves about, especially if one has a high speed internet connection.
These are a few of my personal recommendations for basic internet security.
An anti virus program( I use Norton) and keep the virus definitions updated. Run a full system scan every week.
Get security updates and patches ASAP update your operating system regularly. PC's that are not updated are the easiest to exploit.
Use 1 or more spyware removal tool on a regular basis(every other week or so) I use spybot search and destroy and adaware on my home pc. Again keep the definitions updated.(both are free downloads at www.downloads.com)
Never give out a log in name and password to anyone. If I need acces to a clients pc I have them login and type in there own password while I look away.
As of right now I do not recommend any wireless networking equipment to any of my clients. Some still uses it, but they end up seeing me a lot more. No problem for me as long as the checks keep clearing.
I also recommend firefox browser.(a free download also at www.downloads.com or ate the mozilla firefox website)
I also recommend Norton system works.(not free It usually goes for 60.00 to 90.00 dollars) It comes with a 1 year anti virus and a lot of other clean up tools that will keep a pc running smooth.
Lastly, I do not know all there is to know about security. This is an ongoing process. These are just a few basic personal recommendations. I welcome all others.
Thank you,
J.S. Harrison

Whoops almost forgot
A firwall. Anyone who has a high speed connection should have a firewall. A harware or router firwall is almost always better than a software firewall. If you choose to use a router as your firewall I recommend choosing one that uses NAT(network address translation) There are some free firewalls programs online. I have used zone alarm in the past, I had no problems with it , but I have heard of some people not liking it. Well it was free. Just remember to keep it updated.
