For any of you herpers out there, which do you prefer, osceola or ocala nat' forests? I am taking two young students herping and I don't want a bust. I would like them to see some snakes in numbers either night or day.

Osceola for sure. At the right time of the year, it has produced some of the best road cruising results ever for me. Canebrakes, Pigmys, and Cottonmouths are found in numbers! When the snakes are moving, they will be moving in large numbers. The best time for Osceola is late April to the first part of June. After that it gets very hot and the snakes seem to estivate. It will then pick up late August to about the first part of October.

Osceloa is the best place for herping
Remember the Canebreaks are very HOT there, deadly neurotoxic!! If bitten use of a pressure bandage may be warranted.
Good Luck,
Al

If you want to try something new then definitely try Osceola. In about a month, everything should be up and moving, especially at night. If you're looking for Canebrakes, make sure you take a close look at the base of fallen trees and logs etc...I've noticed that most of the ones that I have seen there seem to follow very closely along these things.
