Greetings from Angola.
Its a pitty the snake had to be killed. Speaking of which, what animal controll would kill a snake, rather than relocating it???? Verry odd!!!

Most animal control ( at least in the area where I live ) would kill a venomous snake.
They are usually low paid county workers that are often high school dropouts.
They do not have training in capturing venomous snakes, and do not have anywhere to house the snakes until they are re-located. The equipment they carry is often noose poles and nets.
Unless they personally know a snake re-locator to call, or unless the snake is harmless like a boa or python, the snake will often end up dead. Many of these people do not know a harmless snake from a venomous one, so to them, all snakes are venomous.
Wish things were better, but some things about this society and their view of wildlife, are not as highly evolved as those of our friends in other countrys.
Best Regards JohnZ

Yeah, "Animal Control" here has 2 doors:
One labled "Enter here if you are dropping off a cat".
The other "Enter here if you are dropping off a dog".
They also have investigators that go out and deal with farm animals, but anything else goes to Fish and Game or private trappers...

Its pretty unfortunate! I suppose its like that everywere! Here in South Africa most people also kill the snakes that are found like Rinkhals and Puff adders. There are only a handfull of us that are didicated and passionate enough to catch and relocate our scaly little friends.
I make posters at the beginning of every summer, advertising to catch and relocate problem reptiles, for free by the way! When i do so, i try and educate as best as i can. Perhaps this could bennefit future generation reptile lovers and concervation.

The Animal Control is the same here, If fact the officers that come out bring a shot gun if they cant catch the animal, be it a snake, cat, dog, or any animal were the owners arnt around they just shoot them. Even inside city limits. Sad really.

Animal control is a joke.... A woman I work with had a 10ft burm in her backward about 3 years ago. It was stretched out on her chicken pen. She called Animal control first and they were going to charge her 50.00 to come out and catch the snake. She called me after that and I thought she was imaging things. I went to her house, sure enough, someone turned loose a 10ft burm. Mean snake. I caught it for her, took it to the vet, and stil have it til this day.
