they're raised about 2mm and are about the size of an eraser....they're soft and flesh and seem to be right under the skin.....on one cottonmouth, there were 10 or so and a couple of other snakes had a few......they seemed to be between the middle and tail of the snake, none on the front half and mostly on the rear and mostly on top of the body...........any clue what they are?

I'd bet pigs to polecats it's subcutaneous tapeworms. If a reptile vet looked at it he'd probably lance one just to make sure, then he would probably treat it with with Praziquantel (Droncit) or Niclosamide.
Don't say I said it, because it's an off label use, but dosages of panacur wayyyy over the prescribed limit have been known to work. Certainly don't try it :-p

That is a very good guess as I have seen this condition in some captive/wild caught snakes. The other possibility is that if these cottonmouth were kept in damp conditions w/out a hot/dry basking area, they could be forming various skin lesions/cysts that typically afflict aquatic species like Nerodia and cottonmouth kept in improper conditions. Silvadene cream is a great product to treat it but should there be underlying bacterial infections, antibiotics like Baytril, Amikacin or Fortaz may be needed (and only a licensed Vet should make that diagnosis).

that's kind of what i was guessing.....these are all wild animals, but of the 20 i've seen in the past few days, maybe 3 or 4 were affected.....too soft to be puss and this time of year, a lot of animals (mostly deer/rabbits/squirrels) seem to be affected, but i've never personally seen it in snakes......
i really wish i could find a cooperative vet around here.......had a guy who'd deal with things after hours but he relocated and now i have no one......ridiculous, they actually come across as angry when you ask about venomous snake care....

I've found most vets receptive to the "will you stand on the sidelines and cheer while I do the hands on stuff?" approach.
I only know of about 3 vets that will treat hots and none are near me. I do have a vet however that will write the prescriptions and watch me while I medicate.
You almost have to become your own vet in this hobby...

oh, i can do the actual "vet" work, but i just don't really have a connection for the minor lab work and prescriptions (i need a nice microscope, maybe santa will bring one)
the pet stores recommend the same guys who do nothing with venomous snakes, even had a lady hang up on me after a resounding "NO!"........
