I was just wondering if anyone else uses hamsters to feed their snakes? It seems to me that a hamster would be more of a meal for a snake than just a mouse.

I use 'em to get finicky (spelling?) Texas Rat Snakes to eat. Just watch out for the teeth if you're feeding them to a delicate snake. I imagine they can inflict a nasty bite. They only problem I've had with them is I have to buy them on a different day then my usual "food run" day. If I'm purchasing feeder mice/rats, the pet stores will not sell me a "Pet Hamster." I guess they think I'm sick enough to feed it to something? Haha.

I have had some snakes that would not eat hamsters, but would readily eat gerbles.
If you want a feeder animal that almost any picky snake will eat, get a bb gun or pellet rifle and bag some chipmunks ! Works especailly well with wild caught Diamondback Rattlesnakes, Timber Rattlesnakes, and large wild caught Cottonmouths.......
Best Regards JohnZ

I have a pair of dwarf hamsters I keep to make pinkies for me. They don't smell as bad as mice and reproduce about the same rate. The babies are also smaller and work good for neonates. I did feed an adult hamster to my cornsnake a few years back and she had a really runny and smelly poo a few days later.
