I was talking to my old forestry teacher a few months ago and he told me that in Tifton, Ga some workers were bulldozing a wooded area close to Wal-Mart and they stirred up a rattlesnake that was just under 9ft. Unfortunatly it was killed on sight. He said there was a picture of it in Tifton's newspaper. Would that be a record here in Ga? Also, has anyone else heard about this?

Man, that snake gets around. It was 9 feet and 97 pounds last I heard. What's the weight up to now? It would be a world record if it were true...
Ask him if it was this picture (most likely):
http://www.claycountyfreepress.com/images/upload/Rattlesnake.JPG
The let him know that just because it was in the paper doesn't change the fact that it was a hoax.
1) It's been in papers in several states.
2) It's a WESTERN diamondback.
3) It's probably not much over 5 feet (camera angle).

Here we go again... Steven, now you know why we're skeptical. Did anyone see the "hogzilla" episode on NGC?

If you search the archives of the Tifton Gazette Newspaper, you will only find a story about a 6 foot ``timber`` rattlesnake with 9 rattles that turned up.
Guess the old forester added a few feet to the length just for fun ? Or to just make the story sound better?
Hey, bigger is better I guess, LOL !

Sounds like John probably found the source. It may not have even been an intentional exaggeration. He may have just remembered a pic of a huge rattlesnake and the number nine. The brain's funny that way...

That EDB looks to much like an western to me.
Look at the pic really good and the tail is banded black and white . I wonder if anyone had a WDB that got loose. If so it had to be captive to get that big.
