Due to extenuating circumstances we are keeping the position opening available for our Herpetologist I here at the Abilene Zoo for a brief duration longer. Details are below, and as always, the job is what it is folks so please let’s not open this up for a thread on AZA, or Zoos, or pay scales. What it is though is a unique opportunity for someone who is eager to break into the profession to get into the zoo realm with a good team of herpetologists and be involved in the creation of the new “Cold-Blooded Conservation Center” that has already gotten underway. It’s a chance to live in the heartland of herps...Texas, where we herp everyday and even catch rattlesnakes without leaving zoo grounds! Texas boasts roughly 105 varieties of snakes alone, not to mention the countless other wildlife that abounds here- from wildflowers to mountain lions.
Reptile laws are good. Venomous species are allowed, just not in Abilene city limits. Other than that...knock yourself out! A 10 minute from the zoo takes you outside of city limits. And we all prefer to live in the cactus with the lizards and coachwhips anyway.
The only drawback is that you would have to work under Larry Lemon who is responsible for my having to create a sign in the Herpetarium stating “Do Not Hit Your Boss in the Head with Venomous Snakes” The man has some issues...LOL
So...I invite some of you to apply. Those of you that already have, hang in there, we are still going through the process and hope to wrap things up soon. For the record; our last three hires came directly from SHHS!!!!! And they have all been fantastic!

Hi Al,
Eh, I still slither through here and see what's up on occasion. I just rarely post anymore, not worth the headcache if you know what I mean.

If Larry hasn't told you, I'll be seeing you two guys Wednesday. Also, I really want to learn about the origin of that sign. Hopefully I won't step on another light bulb while I'm out there!
Have a good one,
Doug Williams

Hey Doug,
yeah, I've got you on my calendar for Wed. I will probably ride along with Larry when he picks you up as I have to get moving to a meeting at 9:00 that lasts till about 1:00 or so. I was hoping to get to spend more time with you but it's just one of those things.
What time are you heading out? Perhaps we can squeeze in a lunch thing or something.
