How might one obtain permits within the state of Georgia for the legal keeping of native non-venomous species of snakes?

Matthew, in the State of Georgia, all native Non-Venomous Snakes are protected. However, there is a limited permit available that allows people to keep these snakes for educational use. You need to Google the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and send an eMail or call the Special Permits Section and ask that they send you the regulations and permit applications.
Hope this helps.

Or you could just go to our File Library (see the navigation bar to the left) - click on the "Permits" section - download the GA Exhibition Permit - fill it out and send it in.
In light of all of the negative responses lately on age treatment here, I think I should mention that the state of Georgia requires all applicants to be at least 18 years of age and nonvenomous permits are issued only with the receipt of a detailed plan to use the animals for education.
All of the regulations and definitions are included with the permit application in the download.
Good luck, I plan to apply for this permit myself soon,
Karl

Karl, thanks for the update on the permit forms. I all too-often forget about all of the usefull information hidden in the black coloums on the left. I hope that new site visitors do explore them, as there is a wealth of information there!
Really was nice to meet you and your wife in person at the Columbia Show. Best Regards JohnZ

so as long as the local laws don't forbid it, you can keep a 6' eastern diamondback but you can't keep a juvenile black racer? interesting and another hint to the fact that we aren't nearly as "civilized" as we think. but hey, facades define the good ole US of A. what's behind them isn't important
