I was just told by cottonmouth(Jeff Quarles)that women are interfering with this site and driving you men crazy both at home and here in this forum...
I was wondering if every other man here feels the same including Chris and Karl??? It seems to me that eliminating women would be shooting yourself in the foot when it comes to gaining support in the hot hobby. I'd like to here from anyone who has an opinion on this issue...I love this hobby and have been involved in it for almost 14 years and this is truely the first time I've been shunned as a woman...Do you men really not want us involved?

Sierra, that is just plain ridiculous! This site is open for use by everyone. My wife goes hot herp hunting with me just about every time I go. She brings a lot to the "hobby" along with a questioning attitude that probably keeps me alive at times. She has her own hooks, her own herps, and her opinion can be quite enlightening at times. She has made fast friends with Dr. Bryan Grieg Frye and Manny Rubio (both of whom would much rather chat with her than me). In short, this IS NOT a MEN ONLY SITE. You are very welcome here. If you like, you can send in an application and dues and you still won't be the first female member of the Southeastern Hot Herp Society. Don't let anyone run you off. Stick it out.

Thank you...I do my best to contribute to the hobby as well..and I have 2 daughters and 2 sons who are actively involved in the herp world and I strongly incourage them to do what they enjoy..but also for them to try and make a difference in some way..whether it is writing letters concerning new laws to our state representive or something as small as doing a report at school on repitles to try and enlighten other kids. I truely enjoy my herps and I hope to continue to be actively involved...not to just own a few hots because its really cool or a macho guy thing. I'll be waiting to hear the others responses as well but you can bet your Bothrops that I'm certainly not giving up my interest in the herp field....

I think it's ridiculous that this kind of question even needs to be asked. Does it really matter whether or not we're male or female, so long as we're herpers? I always thought that we were here to answer each other's queries. Sierra actually asked a legitimate question on Donald's thread, though not in the most tactful manor....oh well. I read her post the same way that Donald did and I was upset that it seemed that someone was attacking my friend's credibility and character. I was a bit more peeved that the seemingly attacking person posted anonymously. (The prefferable way to go about this, imo, would be to not post an email address.) Nonetheless, Sierra did raise a good question about accepting someone's credibility on the internet without refference.

you and i already have an ongoing feud in another forum, however, i meet very few females who enjoy herpetoculture. consider yourself one of a few. i appreciate your love of this hobby. i also wish to thank you for educating your children in the conservation of the reptiles we all love.

Well,what started in a good natured offer has turned into a nasty fight.I am truly sorry to all involved and would also like to add my 2 cents worth.I think we are all fault a bit and should not be ready to jump at each others throats the first opportunity that we get.I got defensive and it snowballed into a huge fight involving many innocent parties.To set the record straight on a few things.I think everyone should have a say,whether they are black,white,male,female,young or old.We don't have to appreciate everyone's point of view,but we should at least give them the chance to speak.Drinking and snakes mixed are bad.I do drink and I do handle snakes,but never at the same time.To bag on someone just because they warm a bar stool from time to time is not right.We are fighting amongst ourselves when there are so many things we have in common and can benefit so greatly from these forums.I have friends in South Africa that are brilliant herpetologist,but do not have access to the internet.They would literally kill for such a powerful resource and yet we bicker about spelling.Please people,lets call a truce and play nice...okay.By the way,the South Africa trip will involve sundowners and a few beers here and there after a hard days/nights herping,so don't say I did not forewarn you.All the best

I think together we've posted the longest discussion on the forum in the trip to africa post...thats sad and I agree with Donald that we could have expended our energy elsewhere. And I admit my reply to Donalds very first post was inappropriate and I apologize(again)I am to blame for most of the aftermath. But I do tend to get defensive when it comes to my herping....So lets move on....I posted this question in response to a comment made about a woman being on this website...its good to see that at least you guys can still support a "fellow" herper even if she isnt a man and even if she tends to be outspoken and even(gulp) wrong at times......

My wife is an avid herper also and I must agree with Karl...I love having my wife involved in hot herps,..infact most women are more intelligent than most men so it brings great ideas and promise to our field... any man that dosent like the company of women, or views it as an intrusion has other issues going on...but anyway continue visiting and posting on the forum...don't be harrassed by a few narrow minded "gentlemen"...The rest of us welcome you and look forward to your input...with your permission I'll have my wife drop you a email..
