I am familiar with the Heamachatus and the death feigning it does so readily. And the same with the hognose of America. After some discussion with some herpers,it would seem the only snakes that feign death that I know of have a diet that consists of Bufo. The question is that the advantage of playing dead to a predator has no real value when the attacker is trying to kill you anyway.Does the Bufo toxins have any role to play?I am thinking of doing some research on the heamachatus and seeing if this is true...any ideas or previous studies been done? What other snakes do this?
Cheers
