Are SE Crowned snakes venomous? I know if they are the venom doesn't have hardly any effect on humans if any at all.
Should they have a full uninterrupted ring going around their head or is it common for them to have a interupted ring with a black line going through it?

To my knowledge the crowned snake is a mildly venomous rearfanged colubred. The venom seems to slow or paralyze small prey and even centipeds but has no effect on people. Hope this helps, The ones that I have observed have a solid dark brown, or black head

i'm just wondering, where is there info that confirms the Southeastern Crowned Snake, Tantilla Coronata, as being either rear fanged or mildly venomous. I admit, my focus is, and always will be, on north american pit vipers, but this is new to me. maybe i'm behind the times, who knows, but i've never heard anything like this. the only NA colubrids i've ever heard to have mild venom were the Night Snake, Hypsiglena torquata, the Lyre Snake, Trimorphodon biscutatus, and the Hognose Snake, Heterodon ssp. i'm not being critical, i'm just curious. call me stupid, but i would like more info. thanks for your help.

I remember seeing a small pamplet that listed North American rear fanged snakes and the crowned snake was listed. I really do not know of any research or hard proof to verify any toxins in the salyva. If you ask me, personaly I would not classify them as venomous in any way.
