My local police dept. called me an hour ago about a rattlesnake. i go to each of these calls skeptical, but cautious. it was a four foot canebrake with nine rattles and a button. i'm still shaking. do you ever get over the adrenaline rush? i doubt i will sleep tonite. just had to tell someone. happy herping fellows, and ladies.

It's always fun when they "surprise you". I remember once cautiously opening the lid of a bucket and having a canebrake hammer it just as I got the lid about 6 inches away from the top. That's why you have to have perfect technique even for removing a bucket lid. Never expose any part of yourself within the strike range.
