I recieved an E-mail from Gerry Martin, a nature show host for National Geographic.
The guy putting this trip to Africa together said on a couple of occations that he knew Gerry Martin and that they had gone herping before. He said he would be working as a guide for Gerry Martin later this year.
Here is the exact copy of the E-mail I recieved today:

I'm sorry it's taken me a couple of days to resopnd to you but I've been travelling and have had no access to the internet.
As for Donald, I've never met him, never been to Africa (as much as I'd love to have) and have certinly never been on a "Snake Safari". I did put out a request on a couple of forums on information on various projects happening in Africa and Donald was one of the folks who responded to those. We were in correspondence for a while but I couldn't make anything of the projects he suggested.
We wont be there in September. I'm trying to make it there sometime later.
However, we won't be working with Donald.
Hope this doesn't put too much of a damper on your plans. If you are ever in India, get in touch and we could go on a snake hunt.
Best,
Gerry

Its cool.I know who wrote it.Darren.And as i siad to him.I said that there might be some work that coincides with nat geo.He was planning on starting his career in wildlife movie making on this trip. The main point of this trip was for herpers to come to SA.The original emails between gerry and i seemed very promising but there seemed to be some sort of break down on his side.I had commitments from some really well respected guys willing to work with him and nothing came of it.The fact that Darren tried to get into a nat geo programme like that is not my fault.I appologise to Darren if i have dashed his hopes of fame and fortune, but this was not about glory, this was about snakes.
Copy of email from him...
Hey Don,
I'm good with the Mike Perry thing. All I'll do is observe and assist. More like a showcase of the work that's going on over there. The reason I'll be there is as a presenter and because it's been a life long dream to handle a wild mamba.
As for the sharks, I need to know what the basic day will be like. I also need to know more details on the research itself. What exactly are they doing with population dynamics? What species are they targetting? I'd also need a brief description of the mthodology, list of people working permanently on the project (with bio-datas if possible), objectives of the individual research projects etc.
If you like, I can write down the questions separately. It would be good if they could send this description over so i have a better idea of what will be happening when we're out there.
I'm hoping to be able to do this in September. Figured if we got there at the beginning of September, we could stay on for a couple of months maybe and get a lot of stuff done over there. When exactly are you going to be heading back to South Africa? Let me know.
My business partner, Eric Strauss, who does all our shootin for us, is in Washington right now and he will call you some time next week. You'll have a better idea of our plans then.
Let me know if you want me to write down a list of questions for Chris.
Cheers,
Gerry
