I live in an area where there are no venomous reptiles. Since I was a child I have been interested in these animals and would like to know - 1. How would a person interested in venomous pets find the skills necessary to own one? 2. Is there a material purpose or benefit, scientific or conservational that would support such a hobby? 3. If so, where would one go to sell the venom from these specimens?

K let me try and help. This site is a good start to find out about almost any venomous reptiles in captivity, so pending your interest just browse around. Second, scientifically and conservationally keeping these animals and breeding them would be the best bet for research and conservation purposes, ie produce more animals. As far as sellin venom, unless you have a lab with thousands of animals your probably not gonna be able to compete against the current established venom labs which have tons of snakes they milk daily (this also will lead to your animal dying if you milk on a regular basis due to stress). Now species, if your looking for a good first, which isnt likely to kill you, i would suggest copperheads, pigmy rattlers, sidewinders, and for aboreals eyelash vipers or trimerusurus ssp. i hope it helps,
