Could chimps and humans produce offspring ? Quite possibly. (Skunk Apes and Sasquach ? Just kidding, but still worth thinking about).
According to the CDC and National Geographic, the AIDS Virus in humans has been traced back to a population of chimps from Camaroon.
Did the humans there breed with the chimps to acquire the virus, or did they hunt and eat the chimps to acquire the virus, or did a chimp have its way with a human and spread the virus? One has to wonder? National Geographis speculates it was some of all three over many years time. There had to be "some" kind of contact to spread the virus from chimp to man, and most likely, that contact occured many times for it to become established in the human populations.

Gentlemen!
Whether or not chimps would or could breed with humans...
Whether or not one python species would or could breed with another...
These are philosophical questions better suited to either a) emails or b) an appropriately titled thread.
Neither has a place in this person's thread asking about the possibilities of bullsnakes breeding with rattlesnakes which everyone here has agreed is not possible.
I would really like to keep this site appropriate for teachers and school aged children to be able to use as a resource and the discussion of the origin of aids does not fit into this HERP site.
Please stay on track and keep that kind of speculation to some other venue!

Hopefully I'm not treading in shallow water here but...honestly, is this discussion somehow inappropriate? Good threads are usually those that begin with a discussion and (politely) take that discussion on to try to bring in several facets to further expound upon the topic at hand. Is inter-genus breeding not what is being discussed here? I suppose the chimp/human discussion could be slightly offensive to some religious folks, but the scientific speculation (what we're doing) is not and should not be offensive.
Again, we're talking about the possibilities of inter-genus breeding. We have, as a unit, discounted the possibility of a rattlesnake and a bullsnake breeding. However, that's not even scientific because none of us have given it a real shot to see whether it truly is or is not possible.
I'm sorry, I just fail to see how our further expansion of this topic somehow warrants the necessity for it to be halted? I could see it if the thread were getting out of hand, which it isn't, as several others on this site have from time to time. This one seems pretty amiable to me though...

I agree Chance, the thread should continue.
Worse comes to worse, we create a new thread and leave the rattlesnake / bullsnake thread behind. After all, the lady has not bothered to post a pic of the supposedly hybrid snake. That old rumor about a Rattle Snake / Bull Snake cross has been repeated for hundreds of years. All you have to do is read to prove that to be the case.
There are always going to be those folks who feel that a thread is not appropriate, based on their own belief system, and some of those folk are really tight structured and not willing to listen to threads that involve a bit of radical thought. Unfortunatly, those folks who criticize us are site managers who can delete all of this if they want. I would love to see where this thread goes, and hope if it is deleted, that it can be started again.

"Whether or not chimps would or could breed with humans..."
"the discussion of the origin of aids does not fit into this HERP site."
I do not want to field a discussion of apes and humans breeding here on this site. Do it in emails.
"Whether or not one python species would or could breed with another..."
belongs in "an appropriately titled thread." to allow those folks who are interested in the topic but not interested enough to open the often asked question about rattlesnakes and bullsnakes.
Neither has a place in this person's thread asking about the possibilities of bullsnakes breeding with rattlesnakes which everyone here has agreed is not possible.
I said nothing about closing the thread or deleting any responses. This is a herp site where people come for information. I am trying to keep it that way. My religeous beliefs have nothing to do with how I do that. My ability to delete and excise inappropriate material is always wonderful when it is targeted at "the other guy" with whom "we" do not agree. Unfortunately, whether or not I agree with what someone has posted does not fall into any of the many criteria for deleting a post.
So...If you want to continue this thread about whether or not Morelia will breed with Aspidites - have at it. I still think it would be better in its own thread.
If you want to discuss the origin of aids and whether or not humans have physical relations with other animals - adamantly NOT HERE!!
Clear enough?
