You need to go to the article at the following address:

Basically, it says that Timber rattlesnakes fall into the restricted possession category in the state of NC, along with Pigmy rattlesnakes, Eastern Diamondbacks, Southern hognoses and others.(see article) About the only thing that you could go looking for are copperheads.
You need to get hooked up with some local herpers.
