Do you want to know the snake (s) that kill the most people each year or what snake has the deadliest venom per drop?
The difference is snakes like the Russell’s Viper, Saw Scale and Indian Cobra (to name a few) kill thousands each year because anti-venom in many cases is hours away in these countries.
Where other snakes like the Inland Taipan (probably considered the deadliest snake) has very toxic venom that can kill many men with one drop of venom.
The black Mamba is aggressive and also is the fastest venomous land snake. I forget how many MPH but it can out run humans if it needs to.
Also Sea snakes are highly toxic but with their non aggressive nature and the fact most people want to know the most venomous land snake these guys are often over looked.

This is always a fun question to discuss and debate. I believe the original poster is asking about dangerous as in, in a given situation, which snake is more likely to explode and try to nail you and succeed. And if it does, which is more likely to do the most damage. Of course, I could be wrong and he could be asking which snake kills the most people every year, but usually people posting that question aren't asking for sheer numbers as much as for likelihood.
I'd have to say, in my personal opinion, the most dangerous title would have to go to the coastal taipan, with the black mamba trailing very closely behind. Coastal taipans, though not quite as hot as their inland cousins, have the size (upwards of 10'+), agility (notice the neck is so much thinner than the rest of the body? all the better for a speedy strike), speed, venom potency, fang size, propensity to bite, and likelihood of injecting huge amounts of venom with multiple bites. No doubt about it, both snakes will kill you in a hurry, but with the mamba, there's a possibility you'd live if you can just keep your lungs functioning. Taipans apparently do a real number on your blood work and damage your kidneys as well, and can kill you in just as big of a hurry as a mamba.
Quite a subjective question, but sometimes it's nice to take a divergence from the 'threats to the hobby' threads that have now become nearly more commonplace than general species information threads.

I guess what I was originally asking is - if you were out in the field and were trying to capture an adult hot snake and things got out of contol... bitten, what species would you not want it to be?

pretty easy answer for me, if I were in the feild, or in a captive environment, the answer is "NONE"
I never "want" to be bitten by any animal, especially a venomous one.
but for the sake of arguement, I would agree with the others thus far and say a Mamba, or Tiapan.

King Cobra would definitely be towards the top of the list. King Cobra venom drop for drop is not as bad as others, but they can deliver so much of it. I agree with others though, I would not want to be bitten by any venomous snake. Deciding which one I would least like to be bitten by would be like trying to decide which car I would want to be hit by. The obvious answer is none.

For the sake of argument a large Gaboon, Russel's, or Bushmaster would scare the hell out of me to be bitten by. LOL
