It looks like most of the recent posts have to do more with activism than a forum to discuss the keeping of venomous herps, observations from the field, taxonomy updates, etc. Don't get me wrong, it is crucial that we are all well aware of what's happening state to state with our rights to own herps, and, even more importantly, becoming actively involved in doing so. These are timultuous times for the venomous herp community (heck, herp community in general). I wonder if there's a better way to funnel this information in one of the tag lines on the side of the pages where the classifieds, rattlesnake species and other info is located. This way, folks can click on the "protecting our hobby" category and find out how we can get more involved in contacting local politicians, etc. Information can be added to this area as needed or as updates occur. Just a thought.

Perhaps:
1) people have run out of questions to ask or
2) people with potential questions have become intimidated by the battle between the expers and the trolls.
Several people have expressed nostalgia about the 'good ol days' of the SHHS. I definitely remeber there being more flow of information when I first joined, but I also remember there being fewer trolls (and restrictions on the hobby in general). The only way we can have our old society back is through better flow of information. I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm just glad somebody is posting information that matters.
Cheers.

Rob, I have been wondering the same thing.
Sure seems like the board has a lot of activist material these days.
Perhaps some folks read the material, however, I bet most just skip right over it.
Having activist material posted in its own area would make a lot of sense, that way the folks who are here to discuss venomous snakes could do so a bit easier, and folks who want to become activist could go to their own area.
Best Regards JohnZ

Some people have no choice, if you think we animal owners enjoy being activists, u r 100 percent wrong.I rather spend my time with the animals than fight for my right to spend the time with my aniamls,I hate wasting my time like this, but I do not want to get banned either.
It is necessaary nowadays, just look at NC folks, do u think they got off on fighting API? Don't u think they too rather spend their time discussing the aniamls themselves? But AR are not giving us the choice and there is only 24 hours in a day.
These are forums, it is not clogging your inbox, so just skip over, but I get the hint and will retreat so you can discuss thong sizes while AR are banning the aniamsl u can put in things.

Retract those claws, Z ;)
Nobody was trying to ban you. Rob and Jon were just talking about making the organization a little better on the page (in their opninon). Open forums have issues like this. We just all put in our 2 cents and see what the best ideas are. All of us here recognize the importance of protecting our society, we just all have different ideas about how to go about doing it.

All I have are pictures of my research animals, which are primarily cottonmouths and all wild. Sadly, I think that you need a more picturesqe animal for a poster child. I'll remember my camera next couple of trips, and if I get a good shot, it's yours. There are beter photogragers on this forum than I. My hope is that one of them will come through for you.

Wild pics are good too, or close ups of fangs of your reseacrh animals, I will just come up with a slogan for them, I love toothy pics, these are my fav with my big cats too.
Also, next batch of posters for campaign will have quite a few posters with 'private (aka non AZA) owners do a lot for conservation/education too' theme, which is very true especially for private herp and bird community.

For what it's worth, I think this is a very appropriate place to be reporting the activist issues.
Looking back over the week's postings, there are many that have no responses or only one response.
Nobody is being slighted on space to post their questions, opinions, or replies.
"Z" posts things that are very important to our ability to keep things in various states across the country. Just as Andrew does when appropriate.
Feel free to read her posts and not respond or go ahead and agree with her, offer support, or even explain why you disagree with her position as long as you are civil about it.
This is where she reported that I will no longer be trying to involve myself with displaying venomous reptiles for educational purposes in the great state of Florida. After a long battle, and some sneaky politics, Florida now requires a $10,000 bond to display venomous reptiles.
I like reading the things she posts to keep myself abreast of what the enemy (API, HSUS, PETA, etc) is doing to hamper my lifestyle.
Just my opinion,
Karl

I agree with Karl. I think it's great Z takes her time to spread the word about the true enemy of herpetoculture, the ARA's. If people still check this section regularly, they will see the serious issues that us exotic animal keepers face on a daily basis. I see nothing but good about posting them in the expert section, as the more people see it, the better it will be.
On a side note Karl, while that bond did pass in the legislature, Prosure Group out of Tampa Bay still has the fee for the $10,000 bond at only $100, the same as it was back when it was a $1,000 bond.
