Just wondered if anyone had any personal pics of eastern cottonmouths that weren't already on this site. I simply like these guys and want the pics for my personal collection, nothing commercial or anything of the sort. thanks

Piscivorus, you will find a lot of Cottonmouth fans on this site -- however, unless you fill you your profile and let folks know who you are and what your experience is, it is unlikely that anyone will be willing to send photos to you.
Best Regards JohnZ

Lol...It's not that they're dangerous, but there are a few snooty people that have only been here for a few years that seem to have taken over the forum and such.
Now you can't ask any questions without people jumping on you about a profile, even if you are asking for a simple photo. I remember the good ole days when you could come on here and ask away.
I didn't fill out my profile for probably 8 years until some newbie yahoo jumped on me for it.

Tom, it is just common courtisy for someone to introduce themselves before they come around asking for free handouts.
Being from New York, you are probably not that familiar with the term courtisy, as it is more of a Southern Thing !
Asking someone to add more information to their profile is trying to help the person, as experience has shown that gets a much better response for them.
Posts here from annonomous folks get very few responses at all.
Many here will not take the time to upload quality photos to a stranger, however, they will go out of their way to send photos to someone like a school teacher, or a site member who took the trouble to introduce themselves and has an serious interest in the subject.
If you view that as being snooty, so be it. You send fisheater123 all the Cottonmouth photos you want, but I bet he will get only a fraction of photos he would have gotten if he had introduced himself first and had asked in a nicer fashion.

Hmm, you're right, I'm not familiar with courtisy. I am familiar with courtesy, though (I guess that's a Northern thing). That would have been sending him some pics without him having to divuldge info about himself on an internet forum. Some don't like to do that. I don't think that's asking too much. He asked for a few simple pics, not how to care for the new mamba he just bought. There's a difference.
You say many will upload pics to a school teacher, why is that? Because the have a profile that says they are a school teacher? Profiles don't mean squat. There are plenty in here that say they are this, that, have twenty years experience, yada yada, when it's painfully obvious they aren't and don't.

Hmm, seems like he has a genuine interest and asked nicely.

This sort of back and forth infighting is not adult behavior and does nothing to facilitate the original request.
Please stop.
piscivorus,
John is right in that you get more serious responses if you have filled out your profile.
Tom is correct in saying that the profile request is a relatively new one.
However, the requests for filled in profiles are the result of some very negative contact from some very destructive trolls who were apparently here just to disrupt things.
Good luck in your quest for pictures - whoever you are.

I suppose I should have made it clear I was only teasing with my reply (I thought the winking smiley thing was a dead giveaway lol)
I appreciate the folks who sent me the great pics and will make sure everyone's name is associated with the proper photo just in case it ever matters.
I understand courtesy but try to balance that with divulging enough info online to be foolish. People just don't realize how simple it is to take a name and IP and basically learn someone's life history. I'm not here to do anything more than discuss snakes, learn about snakes and kill time. I'm a small-timer with a passion and nothing more. Sorry to have ruffled any feathers.
It could be worse. Football season could be another 3 months away!!! :o (that's a smiley with an "oh no" face)
Thanks guys, have a safe Labor Day.
