I know this is a hard core venomous group but I'm sure we all have varied herp interests. So what's everyone's favorite groups of non venomous herps? Here's mine:
- Crocodilians - I'm quickly falling in love with our hatchling saltwater croc that just arrived. All crocodilians are fascinating to me.
- Varanus: love 'em all
- Indigos/Coachwhips/Racers - I find these diurnal sight hunters fascinating and love working with them.
- GARTER SNAKES!....someone has to love them.

I like the Carpet Pythons and I am also a big fan of the BCI. I am also into Newts and salamanders.

Rob, I have always liked Crocodiles and Alligators, some turtles like Alligator Snappers, MataMata, and Soft Shells, Dart Frogs, Emerald Tree Boas and Green Tree Pythons, Old World European Ratsnakes, and Western US herps like Trans-Pecos Ratsnakes, Big-Bend Milksnakes, and normal Corn Snakes.
I am kind of burnt out on a bunch of other animals after working with them for many years. Things like large Pythons, Ball Pythons and Rosy Boas, and many King Snakes and Ratsnakes are not all that interesting except for adding a few photos to my album. I sure would not want the keep them, however, I appreciate that they can be quite entertaining and educational for folks who have never kept them or worked with them.
Best Regards JohnZ

Hmm...favorite nonvenomous herp... tough call. I guess olive pythons would have to be up there at the top. Hard to beat their subtle beauty and who doesn't love a 10-15' unicolor snake?! Then again, I'm a huge fan of most of the Aussie/Indonesia Liasis, Morelia, and Aspidites.
Of course, the obscure colubrids also will always have a special place in my heart: Drymarchon, Spilotes, Elaphe/Orthriophis (sp?), Rhamphiophis, etc.

Eugene, just a friendly reminder. We have a lot of young folks who come to this site, and quite a few are not going to know what the heck a "BCI" is.
It could be Bat Conservation International, or perhaps Bureau of Criminal Identification, or Battery Council International, or Bonsai Clubs International, etc., or it could even be some kind of reptile or amphibian.
Please take the trouble to spell out what you are talking about for our younger readers who are not used to all of these new abbreviations that folks are so prone to want to use these days.
Thanks !

I am particularly fond of:
Rosy, Rubber and Colombian Rainbow Boas,
Honduran Milk Snakes,
King Snakes (western varieties although I like them all),
Black Pine, Bull and Gopher Snakes,
and
I am very partial to Mud and Musk Turtles.
I have never understood why some folks feel you can only keep either venomous or non-venomous reptiles. The two do not seem to be mutually exclusive to me.
Nice thread, Rob.

I keep lots of colubrids along with my hots. But my top three have to be annulatas, w. hogs, and grey bands.

I would have to go with blood pythons. I remember putting my allowance away for months to buy my first one when I was younger.
