I’m interested in finding a book that addresses, in detail, the chemical composition of various snake (and or reptile) venoms, as well as the anatomy and physiology of the glands that produce them.
I own two books, both by Thomas Eisner, that do just that, but with regard to insects:
“Secret Weapons” ISBN: 0674024036
And
“For Love of Insects” ISBN: 0674018273
In both books we are presented with the individual species name and detailed descriptions of their chemical defense mechanisms (including toxins, venom, etc.). The books also provide the names and structures of the major compounds these creatures produce, as well as, diagrams of the important glands. The information these books provide is astonishing.
Does anyone here know of any good books that fit this description??
Thanks,
VV

VV, you might try the book "Handbook of Clinical Toxicology," by Jurg Meier and Julian White. It is available on Amazon.com., and is an excellent reference.
http://www.amazon.com/Handbook-Clinical-Toxicology-Animal-Poisons/dp/0849344891/ref=sr_1_1/105-5766302-0496412?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1190662140&sr=1-1
You might also try "Snake Venoms and Envenomations," by Jean-phillipe Chippaux. This book is also available on Amazon.com, and is also excellent.

There are several other books that have what you are looking for, but most are long out of print, and often cost in the hundreds of dollars, if you can find a copy for sale.
If you will fill in more of your profile here, you will get a much better response from people at this site.
Hope this helps.
