One of my newly aquired timbers 4 months to be exact was inflating his throat over and over kind of like a twig mimic snake during a threat display. When he would inflate he would hold it for about 15 seconds and do this every 2 to 3 minutes. He had eaten the day before and was fine and this morning he was fine. Should I be worried?

Hi your snake has a respitory infecton. It may be contagious to any other snakes kept with or around the one that is inflating its throat. I would quarintine it and keep it warm 85- 90 degrees F. This is the time of year when snakes that are going to be sick get sick. Hope this helps

According to Dr. Sam Seashole, DVM, whenever mouthrot is present, it is a good idea to give the snake a shot of Vitamin C. He says that the animal's are almost always Vit C deficient when mouthrot develops.
