Yesterday, I caught an adult kingsnake wandering around the backyard, so I decided to grab him/her (with the intentions of moving him/her out of this neighborhood to a more secluded area)and put it in an extra 20 gallon I had. its very docile and has shown no sign of aggression. my question is: Is there any sure way of telling a female from a male? thanks.

Being that it is an adult, an experienced reptile keeper can give you an educated guess. The most reliable method would be to have it probed by an experienced individual or a vet.

Male kingsnake will have a longer tail than a female. Can you take a close up picture?

John, if you bring the kingsnake to the Columbia Reptile Show the weekend after next, there should be plenty of vendors there who would be able to tell you if the snake is a male or a female.
Plus, it is a great show to attend.

RED FLAG...
I'm guessing he is experienced with hots as well?
Hopefully, you're not letting a unexperienced friend to take a hot ANYWHERE.

I have no excuse, other than that was a late night...
