I have a w.c. adult southern copperhead that just stopped feeding. He used to have an excellent feeding response, taking live mice, anoles and frogs.Suddenly,he just stopped feeding.Six weeks have lapsed since his last meal.I recently had to give him a shed bath,so I was wondering if that might have stressed him out.The rest of my collection in the same room are just fine.Any suggestions?

It is perfectly normal for adult copperheads to go off feeding around this time of the year. The fall propagative season is just about over, and many specimens are beginning to slow down for the winter. Lower the ambient temperature in his enclosure, start reducing daylight hours, and disturb him as little as possible. You will typically see a decrease in acticity during this time, although they will come out and bask in cool weather if the opportunity presents itself.
You can begin warming him up towards late January, and he may or may not start to feed again right away.
Regards,
TE

I agree with "nightflight99".Every year mine do the same thing and I lower the temps to around 60. During the day it sometimes gets pretty warm, but they seem to need that cool down. And by late Jan or into Feb you start warming it up with more light hours, they will return to normal behavior. Marty
