So Andrew,
My brother and I seem to get various answers with regards to keeping venomous snakes here in NC. Does it vary from county to county and who has jurisdiction if it came to enforcing. County or State?

hopefully I'll here something back today, Im pretty sure the class 2 in Missouri only applies to Native Venomous as Exotic Venomous is not listed anywhere in the state regs or wildlife code.
Thanks Brad

I also check API's Web site, and it seems to be the most current, going from
MO. REV. STAT. §578.023 that says you must register with local law enforcement,
Other than that it seems its varies county to county and city to city.

Rick- yes it varies from municipality to county to state. Any municipal ordinance can be more restrictive but not less than county or state. Any county ordinace can be more restrictive but not less than the state. There are no state laws on exotic reptiles. The native rattlesnakes and coral snake are protected by the state and are under the jurisdiction of the NC Wildlife Resources Commission (WRC)... ie the State. Any municipal or county ordinances are under the jurisdiction of local law enforcement. Check your local ordinances... or let me know I have lists of most local ordinances. What city and county are you in?

Hi Andrew,
Thanks for the reply. I'm in Buncombe County, which is home to Asheville NC. I don't have any venomous snakes yet but I'm just doing my homework upfront for if or when I do acquire one or two, I'll know what the regulations are for this area. I'd love to acquire an EDB and a Timber but I know those two will be hard because of the protection laws. I tend to favor the rattlers, but might get a copperhead, or an exotic.
Rick
