Columbia was a great show !
It was fun to see friends again, and there were some really outstanding animals and products that the venders brought to the show. There was a great turnout from local folks, and folks who drove long distances to get to the show. There were some very good educational displays of rarly seen animals also.
The Repticon Team did a great job on running the show and on security, and the SHHS Banquet was great. It is really apparent that the changes that have been made concerning labeling venomous snakes, and using red tape on deli cups holding venomous snakes is working, and making safety at shows much better.
Thomas presented an excellent talk and power point program, and the BBQ was very good ! There was a fun raffle of items that were donated by some of the venders, and even a couple of awards.
Thanks Todd, Cathy, Danny, and all of the others who helped in making it all work !
Best Regards JohnZ

Fantastic job by everyone involved. i don't know when i have had a better time at a show. was good to see many of the old heads back again. the bbq was great! thank you to all that made it possible. I took home 4 adult yellow timbers, 2 adult black timbers, and a few other odds and ends. was a good trip for me. my new girl, Jessie, went in with one kingsnake, ended up leaving with 3 boas and a copperhead. will probably let her handle all of my deals with now on.=) thanks to everyone we traded with, was a please. look forward to the spring.

It WAS a good show!
I drove up just for Saturday at the show and the banquet. I had to work on Sunday and as it was, only made it home two hours before I had to get up for work. There were lots of animals that I had not seen before and plenty of friends that I have made over the years from attending the shows.
It was good to see the volunteers escorting venomous snakes and their new owners out of the building. I even heard, on a couple of occasions, impromptu quizing by the escorts making sure that the people knew how to care for their new charges. Very impressive.
Thomas' presentations, both at the show and the banquet, were filled with valuable information for anyone in the audience from the newest beginner, right up to the PHd's. As always, it was a pleasure to attend his talks.
Todd did an outstanding job bringing the banquet together. There was not even one waitress walking through the crowd interrupting the speaker! Excellent job, Todd!
Many thanks to the vendors who donated the door prizes. I was hoping to win a copy of BW's book so that I could donate it to the zoo. Guess I'll have to come up with some cash and buy and donate it myself ;-) There is just no way that I am giving up my own autographed copy!
It was wonderful to see the SHHS and Roark recognize the great work of Andrew Wyatt and NCARK. If at all possible, everyone should become involved in whatever organization (such as NCARK/SCARK/etc) available that is opposing the nationwide movement of API/HSUS/PETA/etc to do away with private ownership of reptiles. Andrew is at the forefront of the opposition to these laws and is doing a great job. Thank you, Andrew.
Thanks Todd, Cathy, Danny, Dana and Chris for making this year's banquet happen. It was one I will always remember.
Lastly, thanks to Chris and Roark for my award and to Thomas for the wonderful introduction. I was very moved to be so recognized by people whom I respect.

Shane, you are right about Andrew, he has done a great deal of work on setting up NCARK and fighting bad legislation in that state, and deserves a lot of recognition for that.
He is not the only one though, and Andrew will probably be the first to say that he had a lot of help from many others who helped support NCARK in donations and attending meetings to voice their opinions with the legislatures of that state, and helping in other ways.
Overall, many folks got together under Andrew`s leadership and accomplished some very good things in the state of North Carolina, and all of them deserve credit for the way they came togehter and made things happen in that state.
I hope that other states will get together when faced with the same challenges, however, it is very unlikely that they will have a leader with the tenacity, energy, and intelligence that Andrew provided for the fight in NC.

Thanks for the nice words... and thank you SHHS! Thomas' talk was fantastic wasn't it? I was really happy to make a new friend that has dedicated his life to Herpetolgy and the pursuit of knowlege.
Receiving the 'SHHS Man Of The Year Award' is a Great Honor for me, but John Z is right I did not do this alone. Tha NCARK BOD should be recognized as well... Sherry Tregembo from Tregembo Zoo, Dean Ripa from Cape Fear Serpentarium, Dr Dan Johnson from the NC Vet Med Assoc., Mack Robinette is the Vice Chair, Gray Rushin the webmaster, Ted Williams VP, Kathy Decker secretary and many others. I also need to thank all the NCARK members who provided the grass roots support nessesary to effectively lobby the legislature... and of course, the law firm of Jordan Price who served as our voice in Raleigh. Maybe it should have been the 'SHHHS Organization Of The Year' award instead. Again thank you to Chris Harper, Karl Betz, Roark Ferguson, Thomas Ermermacher and all of SHHS for so honoring me and the 'Cold Blooded Mafia'.
Karl Betz receiving the 'SHHS Lifetime Achievement' award is a long time coming and much more significant than anything I have done over the last couple of years. Karl has selflessly given himself to to the SHHS and the Herp community for years. I would like to personally thank Karl for his years of tireless service and his committmant to the SHHS. It would be nice if everyone who feels the same way to give their personal thanks to Karl as well.
I also want to thank Todd and the Repticon Team, as well as Chris Harper and Midwest Tongs for pulling the banquet together and providing a venue to Hear Thomas speak and conduct the annual business of the South Eastern Hot Herp Society.

Karl Betz receiving the 'SHHS Lifetime Achievement' award is a good thing, because he did do a lot for the SHHS over the years, especially the early years when the society was publishing an bulletin and he was more involved.
Karl was editor of the SHHS Bulletin, and it had some very good articles. Unfortunatly, it has not been published in many years, and articles are now only published on the website here.
I would like to suggest that the webmaster create a new section to the left of this page, just like we did for FAQ resently, and put the complete series of the old SHHS published bulletins online here. Perhaps they could be PDF files that folks could download ? Most of the new members have never seen a copy, or even know that a paper publication ever existed. How about it Chris ?

Thank you all for the kind words.
The "SHHS Rattle" final edition was in the Fall of 2004. It was a small edition with only 20 pages.
There were 21 actual editions of the newsletter, of which I participated in the last 20. There are PDF versions of three of them in the File Library on the navigation column to the left which are free to download to anyone on the site. They have been available there for the past 4 years.
Unfortunately, most of the electronic versions of the other editions were lost due to computer crashes over the years. They were mailed out to paying members of the Society with extra copies being sold at the Daytona and Columbia shows. It may be possible at some time in the future to get back to a paying membership with a published newsletter. I expect that Chris and I will be discussing that soon.
