Is it not illeagal to transport wildlife across state lines? Wouldn't that be a violation of the Lacey act? I see people advertising wild caught snakes for sale, is it illeagal to sale wildlife period??????????? I dont think your allowed "leagally" to catch wild animals and sell them, but I am not 100% sure either.

The way I understand it, it depends on the state and the laws of that state. If an animal is sold in one state, and shipped to another, as long as the laws of one or both states aren't violated, there's no problem. However, let's say you shipped a cobra from California to an individual in Georgia that did not possess the proper permit. THEN you have both federal and state violations on your hands -- that would be a violation of the Lacey Act.
In actuality, the reason that people are able to catch rattlesnakes in Georgia and sell them to other states is to protect the rattlesnake roundups. Isn't that ironic? The rattlesnake roundup organizers have more power with state legislators than the folks that work at the Georgia DNR, who would love to see the roundups abolished (As would the SHHS.)
If you want to know what the laws are for each state, go to www.coastalreptiles.com and look at the link on Venomous Herp Laws.

Not every state protects every species from the pet trade. Some of them, like the red pygmy are only illegal to own in north carolina. Other states do not honor that law, therefore when people catch red pygmys and take them to Hamburg, they can sell them without any problem. I think that USFW aught to be enforcing those state laws too. If a snake only occurs in one state and its illegal to have it there then if it shows up somewhere else you have to be stupid not to realize that it was illegally caught.
