Hello
I'm looking for an expert or a person well educated on venomous snake biology. I run a little exotic animal forum and I am looking for someone to teach an online class in a way. Starting with the basic biology and moving on to the advanced covering as much detail and explantion as possible. Along with answering questions myself and others might have.
I know the person that is willing to take on this task will have alot of time wrapped up in preparation of a project like this but the information will remain on the board for the duration. I'm not looking for short explantion or someone to tell people to google or buy the book. I'm hoping to bring in someone that will educate the new and the old members of the venomous hobby. I know alot of the older members get tired of sharing the info after so many years and prefer people to learn on their own but this is my way of bring the info to people so they can do just that.
If you are willing to take on this task you will have your own section on the forum and full control of what you choose to teach. I can also garantee you will have a large number of people who will follow your section.
I hear the older guys say newcomers to the hobby need to know more about the snakes and what they're getting into here's a chance for someone to educate myself and others. This would be a seminar focused on venomous snakes. It could also carry over into some basic diagnosis and treatment for different illneses/parasites snakes encounter.
Well I hope some of you look at this as an oppertunity rather than a headach. If your interested please feel free to contact me through Email or Phone

Thanks

I know it was a waste of time. I don't know why I felt someone would want to go in an teach a little class.
I honestly don't think we need forums or experts. Just reptile pages that say google it and buy the books.
I'm done Delete my accounts on all forums. I have google and amazon.
Peace
Eric G.

I started as tiger pet owner, and although I took some classes on dog training to train my Dobermans, it is little different than training a tiger. If it wasn’t for exotic cat experts, my professional magician friends www.fercos.com in Vegas who really taught me how to train big cats, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
Although they have met some very famous people, they are totally down to earth, just NICE, not stuck ups. What I learned from them I couldn’t learn reading books or googling Internet. I did decent job with my tiger, but now that I learned form them, the professionals, I realize how little I knew before.
Telling Eric to go and read books and do it himself, is as insensitive and misguided as telling somebody who wants to host a big successful music concert with AC/DC to get a karaoke machine instead and sing to the crowd ‘I've got big balls’.
Hope some of you here will reconsider and share and teach the new generation what you know from personal experience.
Thanks
Zuzana

Eric,
Just a suggestion...try The Reptile Room forum under "Hot Zone" ( http://thereptileroom.org/forum/ ) and ask there. Names that come to mind would include Eric Marquette, Joe Switalski, Al Coritz, Rob Carmichael, et. al....great guys, positive attitudes, tremendous knowledge and they truly love this industry and hobby.
I'm very unimpressed with the reply you got here, however, it is not at all surprising as I too have experienced a very negative reply here that bordered on a personal attack. I guess that some people suffer from chronic "optirectalitis" (for an explanation of this disease, email me)
Good luck,
Marty

Eric,
There are several reasons that the experts haven't jumped up yet to teach your class:
1. If they really are experts (or even any good at all) then they are probably up to their eyeballs in work already. Everyone here loves venomous snakes, and if you show any knowledge in the subject then opportunities present themselves in abundance for you to share your knowledge locally. There just isn't enough time to do everything that we want to do.
2. I was actually considering when I might be able to fit your class into my schedule ( I actually teach college, and I would love to do a herpetology class), but based on your reaction to John's suggestion I'd be more than a little hesitant to work with you.
The long and the short of it is this: If you are really passionate about this class (and it sounds like a neat idea) then do it yourself. I think you'll be amazed at how much you learn (and how much fun you have) setting up the class. It will be much more rewarding than having somebody else do it.

Eric, I have deleted that reply to your post that was signed by "me."
I have also changed my password here, as it looks like someone logged in under my name and made an effort to post something negative.
I hope you can find someone to help teach reptile biology for your web site, as it sounds like a good idea.
Best Regards JohnZ

I'm sorry I got a little tight at that post. It did seem odd that you would post something like that.
I was having a bad day yesterday and probably should have refrained from posting. I got a lot of positive replies and feedback from people interested in learning. Seems the experts do not feel the same way.
Anyway a few forums deleted my post in search of an expert before anyone could reply. So I guess everyone feels it's a good idea but no body has the time.

Eric, it is a good idea. You should keep trying and hopefully someone with the time will step forward and help out.
Or maybee you can get several individuals to write different "chapters" on a certain aspect of reptile biology, if they are not willing to tackle the whole thing.
That way you might get a vet to write about diseases and parasites, and a DNA specialist to write about systematics, and a toxicologist to write about venoms, and someone else to discuss the various morphs, etc.
Perhaps you could post a list of topics and see if anyone wants to write certain chapters ?
Best Regards JohnZ
