Justin, are not venomous snakes living, breathing, and moving pieces of natures artwork ?
People keep venomous snakes for many reasons. Some for scientific study, some for bravado, some for the fasination the animals seem to create, some for their colors and patterns, and some because they are a relatively low maintenance pet.
What troubles me most is not Nick Cage`s reason for keeping cobras, (assuming he had adequate safe caging and the required permits for where he lives), but that he did not stand up and defend his position for keeping them against his neighbors.
He had the opportunity to stand up for individual rights, and to stand up for venomous snakes being kept safely and legally, and he backed down. And because of a law suit threat ? That makes no sense. He has tons of money, and probably a huge umbrella liability policy, and access to the best lawyers in the world.
A simple law suit threat from his neighbors is not what made him get rid of his pets. There has to be more to it, like him just wanting to keep the peace, etc with his neighbors.
I bet the actors Clint Eastwood, John Wayne, Tom Laughlin, Charlton Heston, Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stillone, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, or Ronald Reagan would have had a much different answer for their poodle hugging animal rights nutcase Hollywood neighbors. (yes, I know some of those folks are not with us anymore).
Best Regards JohnZ

Yea, I agree, if he just rolled over and played dead instead of fighting to keep them, I wonder if he did not have permits for them. But, permit or no permit, I dont think the neighbors have a leg to stand on as far as a suit goes. It would be up to animal control more than anything. The story seems a little strange to me.

agreed I thought it was incredibly random for , of all people, Nicolas Cage to keep cobras. which made it odd.
