I work on a base in Iraq as a Vector Control technician and received these pictures from a buddy of mine over in Mosul who caught this one on 02Feb08. I haven't run across this one myself and didn't have any luck identifying in it, does anyone recognize the species?

Thanks, that looks a lot like it. Another person I asked thought it might be Coluber schmidti, Schmidt's Whip Snake which also resembles it but I couldn't find any good pictures of that one to check.

Waggett, as stated by Wolfgang, the snake is a Montpellier snake.
Schmidt's Whip Snake, (now named Dolichophis schmidti), is quite a bit different looking.
You can see photos of Dolichophis schmidti at:
http://calphotos.berkeley.edu/cgi/img_query?stat=BROWSE_IMG&query_src=photos_browseimgs_reptile_sci&where-lifeform=Reptile&where-taxon=Dolichophis+schmidti&title_tag=Dolichophis+schmidti
Hope this helps.
Best Regards JohnZ
