No, my profile is correct. I went about it the right way…numerous mentors and believe it or not as a 13 year old I had a more mature approach to this hobby than most adults. Why is it you feel the need to defend someone who is clearly a liability to this hobby. If he can’t ask a simple question in an educated manner than how will he conduct his self when he does get a hot? Will he take it outside and show it off to the girls? Will he feed it live prey just for kicks? Will he free handle for the rush? Honestly I never posted silly questions like that online. I knew where to get hots from the start. I knew how to snake hunt effectively because I utilized mentors.

he may be a total clown and be the next one to grab media headlines due to a bite. i don't know. you don't know. he's 20 years old, his profile has been filled out, and he says he's got a year's worth of experience.
my point is that you kind of attacked the guy for asking a simple question. have you emailed him since you seem to have a beef with him about another thread.
i'm sorry that i attacked you directly, it had more to do with the way some people seem terrified that their expertise will be lessened if others become better at keeping hots. they seem to be happy with being "one of the few" and probably wouldn't even keep hots if everyone was qualified to do so.
i'll shut up though, nothing more to say.

I am going to agree with Ricky somewhat here. Scott asked a simple question here. I took a look at his Profile, and it was filled out, and he was 20 years old, and had venomous keeping experience, so I posted a link to one of the Texas Reptile Shows. Rob, I am not sure that we should judge someones reptile keeping ability by wether or not they ask a question with a lot more explanitory words included. Some folks are just more direct and to the point.
Also, when I read what Scott posted on the Timber Rattlesnake Bite Article, I see his statement:
"before i read this i always thought it would be kind of cool to get bit by a snake, what can i say i was a dumb kid." That statement expresses an honesty, that I am sure some other keepers have felt in the past. And the fact is that the article scared him into changing that coolness idea, and that is a good thing. I do not think it is right to decide he would be a unsafe keeper just because he made an honest statement of his past views.
Seems that folks here are a bit quick to judge someones keeping ability based on a profile and a single statement. Perhaps folks should have asked Scott some more direct questions about his experience level, and reasons for reptile keeping ?
I would suggest to Scott that if he decides to purchase or catch a rattlesnake, that he get some mentorship from a more experienced keeper, as working with a rattlesnake can be a whole lot different from working with a copperhead.
Best Regards JohnZ

I agree John.
It seems here that people try to out do people. I like the comment <cant remember who said it since i can't see the screen now> about how someone said they were 13 when they got their first hot, and how everyone here would react if a 13yr old kid came in here asking questions as to where to find one.
I havent kept a hot as a pet.. yet, and won't for a while. i am still working with a mentor, but from the little experience that i have, i am more comfortable working with the az buzzers then the copperhead. The copp that i have dealt with was very alert and active compared to the rattlers. (didn't the guy in question who started this thread say he owned copperheads?)
I understand that anyone who takes a hit, makes it look bad for the whole community, but you can't judge him for his question asking abilities. He might be a dumb a#%, but then again, he might not.
I agree that his comment was naive <about the coolness of a snake bite> but he realized the error of his ways, and thats all anyone can do is learn from their mistakes.

my friend started with hots when he was 14 and started with puff adders which are not a good one at all lol, and he kept hots for 28 years before taking a bite.
everyone is different some people can start at that age and do fine others could start at 20 and take a bite in the first week, people say not to start young because its a risk and it would make scene to take the advise of someone more experienced. but its his decision and he will have to deal with what ever he does, just make sure your ready cause a bite can be expensive to pay off lol, good luck with what ever you do.

I have a tendency to side with Cro, however consider the following information:
Taking for fact anything that's in someones profile is asking for trouble. I had a 15 yr old male try to tell me he's been working venomous since he was 4 yrs old with his mothers approval, yeah right!
Many States DNR as well as USF&WS actively troll these sites looking to bust people. Yesterday, a 21yr old got busted for trying to sell adult N. kaouthia to DNR agents who saw his ad on KS.com He was in a stste where posession of venomous is not permited. He invited them over to see the specimens. Don't ask me for anymore info on this incident although it will make the news I'm sure. Use common sense, which is asking too much but give it a try anyway.
IMO It just better not to answer these sorts of questions.

See age was never an initial factor in this thread until Ricky attacked me about my profile. Scott is 20 years old with one year hot experience so I am not quite sure how such ages as 15, 13 and 4 came up. I can’t believe all of the years of experience and all of our learned members would consider talking to this buffoon! My initial statement was... “If you need to ask where to purchase a hot snake then you don’t need to own one.” I don’t see the controversy in that and I still stand by it. Now had he presented himself in a more educated manner then I wouldn’t have said what I did and frankly I think it’s irresponsible to point someone like this in the direction of obtaining hot snakes. One year of HOT experience should be sufficient to learn where to obtain said snakes. This hobby is under way to much scrutiny to be loose at the mouth about where one can buy a hot. Now had this individual spoke to me in person and I was able to get a good vibe then maybe I would help but I am still stuck on the lack of a good tone to his question. This is not me being “stingy” “anal” or looking at anyone down my nose. I would help anyone in the world when it comes to snakes but I need to know they are educated, serious, and responsible.
