(January 23, 2008) – Nicolas Cage reportedly had pet cobras that he had to get rid of when his neighbours threatened to sue.
"The cobras were called Moby and Sheba and I kept them in my house in Hollywood for about three years," the actor told the UK's Daily Mail. "I had to keep the antidote to their poison as well because if one of those guys bit you then you had 15 minutes before the curtains closed. I loved them. I'd watch them for hours. I happened to mention them on the Late Show with David Letterman and then it became a big neighbourhood problem. They threatened to sue me unless I got rid of them. I could see their point. I resolved the issue by giving the snakes to a zoo."

Letterman doesn't seem to be helping anybody's reputation these days regarding cobras.

yeah I started another thread about this. It sounded to me like he just had em as decorations. As if he just kept them to have em around.

What got me was, he says he got rid of them because the neighbors were going to sue him. Were they illegal where he lives? If not, they have NO grounds for a lawsuit. It's not like the snakes were going to escape from their cage, grow hands, and learn how to unlock a door, turn the door knob and hunt them down! LOL

Neighbors can make your city a no HOT zone if they go to the right people.
It happened here.

hey wolf, you aren't missing anything, i cut and pasted everything the the page listed about it.
Mark, i think in CA one needs a permit to keep exotic venomous, but i am sure that wouldn't be an issue. he can probably afford it. problem is, when you get into high end neighborhoods, they have neighborhood associations that set by laws for the neighborhoods. i think they would have sued vis the neighborhood association rather then the courts.

Yea, good point. I still laugh at those sorts of people though. Like I said,.......how in the world were the snakes going to hurt them? IDIOTS!

I have a homeowners association. They would have a very difficult time enforcing any rules regarding what I do in my home. My guess is that some wrong terminology has been introduced. Maybe Mr. Cage just gets along with his neighbors and didn't want any hassles.

Cage actually comes to this site on a regular basis but obviously under an alias..He was at the Daytona show two years ago and mentioned this site to one of the vendors.
