Andrew, the whole area is good for herping. Get some good county road maps, then drive likely roads early in the mornings looking for road killed snakes from the night before. Also, try to find old roads that used to be the main road, but have now been replaced with a more modern road. Also, find roads that run parallell to rivers and swamps. Try sand roads and small, paved county maintained roads. These can be especially good if they have drainage ditches with water in them on the sides. Try to avoid those roads that run for miles through soybean fields, or cattle ranches, as the surrounding land is mostly devoid of snakes. You really do not need a hot spot, just some field work to find many great herping areas in the Florida panhandle. Also, ask the locals when ever you talk with them where they have been seeing snakes.
Hope this helps.
Best Regards JohnZ
