I know these critters are not venomous, however, a lot of folks here keep / like these animals.
New DNA research has resulted in: Lichanura trivirgata Cope, 1861) retains the standard common name Mexican Rosy Boa (most of its range is in Mexico); the newly resurrected Lichanura orcutti (Stejneger, 1889), found in both the Sonoran Desert and Mojave Desert of the southwestern United States, becomes the Desert Rosy Boa. Recognition of the taxa gracia, roseofusca, myriolepis, and saslowi (all formerly recognized as subspecies of L.trivirgata in Mexico and/or the United States) is not supported and they are relegated to the
synonymy of Lichanura trivirgata.
Guess some of you will need to re-label your cages.

This was just on the PARC listserv. I don't think that it will be widely accepted because the phylogenetic differences don't hold true throughout the entire range. Durn cell smashers need to just let well enough alone ;)

I actually agree with Pantherophis. The Rosy Boa argument is just too weak. Just my humble opinion.

Pantherophis - cat snake. It's pretty sexy for a scientific name. I actually don't usually have problems re-learning scientific names as long as they make sense to me. I'm still working on that Hyla/Pseudecris nonsense, though ;)
